Your Fastnote Account. For some activities on Fastnote, like posting notes, flagging content, voting, or moderating, you need to register and create a Fastnote Account. We require a limited amount of personal information when you create an account including your email address, a sign-in ID, and a password that is used to protect your account from unauthorized access. We also require additional information such as age, gender, and location.
Reading notes on Fastnote. You can read notes on Fastnote without having a Fastnote Account and we do not collect personal information about you if you are simply visiting the site.
Usage Information. After you register, when you use Fastnote, we may record information about your usage of the site, such as the notes you read and write, the names you follow, as well as information you click on in Fastnote and we may associate that information with your Fastnote Account.
Content contributed to Site. Any personal information or content that you voluntarily supply (e.g., name details, notes, votes, or comments), may be collected and viewed by others as part of normal operations of the Fastnote site.
Anonymity. We recommend that you not post notes that include personal information that could be used to identify you. Notes that include personal information that could be used to identify you are violations of our Terms of Service and are likely to be flagged by members of the site and then may be deleted via the Fastnote community moderating processes. This personal information includes email addresses, phone numbers, addresses or other information that could be used to identify a writer. We recommend that you avoid references in notes that could be used to identify a writer, e.g., when you are writing a note about a meeting, if there were only two people in the meeting, do not say “during the meeting today…”
We may use information you provide to operate, maintain, and improve the site and functionality of Fastnote, and to manage any moderating activity or other communication you send to us.
Information That is Publicly Available
Unless you opt out on a note by note basis, (which you may do by checking the “Do not link my age, sex, and location with this note” located underneath the “write a note” box) we will link demographic data that you supplied (gender, age, and location) with each note that you post and we will enable our members to search and perform analyzes based on this publicly available demographic data. We do not link your email address or your Sign In ID with this demographic data.
Notes you write on Fastnote and comments you make are publicly visible.
Any notes or votes that you submit to Fastnote may be redistributed through the Internet and other media channels and may be viewed by other Fastnote users or the general public.
If you post notes, enter addressees, use a bulletin board, blog, or chat room on this Web site, you should be aware that any personally identifiable information you submit there can be read, collected, or used by other users of these forums, and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. We are not responsible for the personally identifiable information you choose to submit in these forums.
Your Account and Your Choices
If you have a Fastnote Account, you may update or correct your personal profile information and email preferences at any time by visiting your account profile via the manage account link.
You may, of course, decline to submit personal information through Fastnote, in which case you can still view notes and explore Fastnote, but you will not be able to write notes, vote, or moderate.
If you would like your personally identifiable information; i.e., your email address, and the demographic information (gender, location and age) you supplied at registration deleted, please contact us as described below. We will respond to your request within 30 business days.

Fastnote strives to provide you with relevant and useful advertising and we use the DoubleClick cookie, as well as other third party ad serving systems, to do so. We may use a range of information including cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, usage data and other non-personal information about your computer or device (such as browser type and operating system) to provide you with relevant advertising. If you are logged into your Fastnote Account, we may also show you advertising based on the information you have provided to us in your Fastnote Account.
We use the DoubleClick cookie on Fastnote to help advertisers and publishers serve and manage ads on this site. We currently use the Google AdSense ad network and may at our discretion add additional networks as well as sell ads directly. Advertisers may serve ads based on interests associated with non-personally identifiable online activity, such as notes read, written, voted on, or moderated and frequency and nature of activity on other AdSense partner sites. Advertisers may also serve ads to you based on previous activity on that advertiser's website. This non-personally identifiable information is held separately from your Fastnote Account data or other personally identifying information in our possession.
You may view, edit and add to the categories used to provide you with interest-based advertising in the Ads Preferences Manager for the DoubleClick cookie. Your ads preferences will be respected across Fastnote and other AdSense partner sites using the DoubleClick cookie to serve such ads. For more information about interest-based advertising and the Ads Preference Manager see the Google FAQ about the Double Click cookie.
You also may choose to opt out of the DoubleClick cookie at any time. If you select the DoubleClick opt-out cookie, ads delivered to your browser by our ad-serving technology will not be served based on the DoubleClick cookie. Find more information here about opting out of the DoubleClick cookie.
Note: all of the information collected by the technologies above is not linked to personal information.
The security of your personal information is important to us. We follow generally accepted industry standards to protect the personal information submitted to us, both during transmission and once we receive it. No method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure, however.
