Getting Started Is Easy
Fastnote is not a "social network." You don't have to create a profile page. No one will know that you registered unless you tell them. We don't even need your name -- just your email address, gender, age and location to the city level.
You are welcome to look around, find names, and read all you’d like. To add a new name, write a note, or vote on the notes you see, just register and sign-in.
If you have trouble doing anything on the site, you can return to this page and review the detailed instructions below. If you have other questions about Fastnote, please check our FAQ page where you can find answers to some of our more frequently asked questions.
Registering on Fastnote is free and easy. To register as a user, simply click the "Register" link on the top navigation bar in the upper right corner of any page.
Follow the steps and fill in the details on the Create Account Form.
Pick a Sign-In ID. Your Sign-In ID is used only for signing in. It is never shown on the site except to you on your linked with any of the notes you write or names you enter. Remember your Sign-In ID, as you will need to enter it each time you sign in to Fastnote.
Select a password and repeat it for verification. Make sure you select a password that is both secure and easy for you to remember.
Enter your email address. We will ask you to verify this email address to finish the registration process. Also, we will use this email address later to communicate with you about Fastnote issues. We will never sell or rent your email address, or use it for any other purpose.
Please review the Fastnote Terms of Service and check the box if you agree to the Terms of Service. Then click on the create button to complete the process.
After submitting your application you will receive a registration email that will contain a link for you to click. Clicking the link will return you to Fastnote as a Fastnote User.
Please Note: If you don't receive this registration email within a few minutes, please check your spam folder. Sometimes automatic spam filters will incorrectly flag email from a new source as spam. To make sure you always receive Fastnote emails, you may want to specify Fastnote.com as a "trusted" source within your email software.
After you've clicked the registration email and returned to the site, you will receive a second email that confirms the completion of the registration process.
Just click the "Sign-In" link at the top of any page and a small pop-up window will open. Enter your Sign-In ID and password, and click the "Sign-In" button.
If you forget your password, click the "Forgot Password?" link and you will be instructed on how to reset your password.
Finding Names / Searching
Enter the name you're looking for in the Quick Name Search boxes located in the top right corner of most pages. The Quick Name Search assumes you're searching for an individual. If you're searching for an Organization or group, use the drop-down menu at the left end of the text box to select "Organization." The name you enter should be entered as you would say it. You can search using first or last names or just the first few characters of a name. When you've finished entering the name, click the "Go" button to the right of the name.
You can also enter the name in the search boxes on the Find a Name page. Again, the name you enter should be entered as you would say it. You don't have to fill in every box. First search broadly, then enter more information to narrow your search. When you've finished entering the information, click the "Find Name" button.
The next page you see will show a list of all the addressee names on Fastnote that match the name you entered. If one of the names shown matches the name you entered and the other information following the name confirms that this name is the person or organization you're looking for, click that name. If you don't see the name you searched for, you can modify your search using the search box. Try different versions of the person's name or different spellings.
If you are unable to find the name you are searching for, you can click the "Go to Add Name Form" button and enter the individual or organization as a new addressee name. You must be a registered user to add a name.
Before adding a name you must first check to see whether the person or organization you're looking for is already entered (see the above section, Finding Names / Searching). If you can't find the name by searching, please add it. Only registered users can add a new addressee name.
When adding a name, please enter as much information as you know to help others identify this person or organization. It is best to add a name using the most common name -- the one most people recognize. Once you have filled in all of the information on the Add a Name page, click the "Add This Name" button to complete the process.
To write a Fastnote, you first need to find or add the name of the person of group you would like to write:
- Click any name you see on Fastnote, and you will be taken to a page of notes to that person or group.
- Click the "Write" link in the navigation bar on any page. Enter the name of the individual or organization you wish to write or click to add a new name if the name is not in our database.
After finding or adding the name you want, click the Write a Note link on that individual or organization's page and a text-entry box will open.
- Enter a topic for your note, either by selecting one from the topic drop-down menu or by entering a new one into the new topic text field.
- Select a Writer's Label to classify your note as positive, negative, suggestion or other.
- Type the content of your note into the text-entry box and click the submit button.
- Your new note will display immediately on the page containing the notes to that Name.
All notes are linked to the individual or organization they are addressed to. First, find an addressee name to see all the notes written to that addressee. The list of notes displayed is a list of all the active notes to that name. Since each note is from a different writer, this list shows a broad view of all the writer's writing to that addressee name.
If you want to see all the notes ever written to that name, click the "Show Active and Archived" link in the Selection Options Box. This view displays the archived notes in addition to the active notes.
By opening and using the Selection Options box immediately above the list of notes, you can choose to select subsets of the notes. Click on the "Click for Filter Options" link in the upper right corner of the Selection Options box. From here, you can select to see subsets of notes based on writer's location, sex, and age as well as specific periods of time, note topics or writer's labels.
You can also sort the notes displayed using any of the options in the "Sort By" drop-down menu in the bottom right corner of the Selection Options box.
To read the top notes based on our users' votes, click the "Top Notes" link on any navigation bar on the site. From the Top Notes page, you can read the top most agreed, most disagreed, funniest or "well said" notes to any group of people in any part of the world. The selection box allows you to select subsets of these top notes based on blends of addressee and/or writer information.
It is easy to report notes and names that you believe are site violations on Fastnote. To report, you must first be registered and signed in. Then, simply click the Report link next to any note or name that contains the offending content you wish to report. A pop-up Violation Report window will open.
If you are reporting a non-legal issue, complete the form by indicating which violation(s) you are reporting and include an explanation if you believe that is necessary. When you finish, click the Submit Report button on the bottom of the window.
If you are reporting a legal issue involving a specific name or note, please use a Legal Issues form. Begin as you would with any report, by clicking the Report link next to the offending name or note. Then click the appropriate legal issues link in the box at the top of the Violation Report. The form will open with the information about the offending note or name pre-populated into the form. These Legal Issues forms are also available on the Contact Us page, but choosing them from that page cannot pre-populate the name or note information for you.
Community moderating is an important feature of Fastnote. To moderate, you must first be registered and signed in. Then, click the Moderate link on any navigation bar on the site.
From the Community Moderator Page, you may become a moderator by clicking the Become a Moderator link. Read the Moderator Terms and Conditions. If you agree to the Terms and Conditions, check the box and click on the Become a Moderator button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
When moderating, please make your recommendations based on what you think is best for Fastnote.com and all of our users. Typically, several moderator recommendations will be needed to make the decision for each reported item.
There are several ways you can share Fastnote content across the Web. If you want to share a page on Fastnote, click on the Share This Page link on the top navigation bar. You can also share a specific note on Fastnote by clicking the Share link next to that note.
Fastnote content can be shared using many different services like Facebook, Twitter and Digg, to name just a few. You can also share content two different ways using email. One way is to email a link from your email address. The other way is to have us send an anonymous email. In both cases, you must provide the email addresses that you would like the messages mailed to. (We do not keep those email addresses, and we will not use them for any other purpose.)
My Notebook is an important feature of Fastnote that allows you to do several things:
- Watch or "follow" a name: If you are a registered user and you find a name or enter a name that you are likely to want to find again, click the "Add to My Watch List" link to the right of the name to add this name to your Watch List. From your Watch List, you can:
- Click on any of the names to go immediately to that name page.
- Determine how many notes that person or organization has received since the last time you viewed their page by reading the text under each name.
- Start or stop email notification. Our email notification system will snd you a daily email if any of the names on your Watch List have received new notes.
- Review the list of names you have added. You may delete any name you have added unless a note has been written to that name.
- Review the list of notes you have written. From this list, you may always delete or archive any note you have written.
- Review your list of favorites.
All of these lists can be sorted in a variety of ways by clicking on the Sort By drop-down button.
To contact us, please see our Contact Us page.

Simply click on Manage Account on the top navigation bar, fill in the necessary information and click on the Update button at the bottom of the page.
